In this video I have elaborated major varieties of Language in Sociolinguistics. Varieties of language include Dialects, types of Dialects such as Regional and Social Dialects, Dialect Continuum, Isogloss, and Register. Also Lingua Franca Pidgin and Creoles are verities of language.
Dialect in Sociolinguistics is any variety of language that is marked by difference in vocabulary and grammar. Accent in Sociolinguistics is any variety of language that is related with pronunciation only.
Types of Dialects in sociolinguistics are Regional and Social Dialects.
Regional Dialects in sociolinguistics are the dialects spoken in one particular region. Social Dialects are marked by social factors and social background of speaker.
Isoglosses in sociolinguistics are lines drawn on map to differentiate between one particular linguistic feature from other features of different areas. Different dialects overlap with each other and merge to form a dialect continuum.
Dialect continuum is phenomenon in sociolinguistics in which chain of dialects continues and is mutually intelligible. But at further distance dialects became unintelligible. This Phenomenon in sociolinguistics is known as dialect Continuum.
Pidgin in sociolinguistics is language with no native speaker. Creole in sociolinguistics is language that developed from pidgin.
The term of Regional and Social Dialects in sociolinguistics is also discussed with example. Difference between dialect and accent is also discussed. I have explained the concept of Dialect Continuum and Isogloss in Sociolinguistics.
