Based on an archived audio recording of English folk duo John Kirkpatrick and Sue Harris performing at St Andrews Folk Club in the Star Hotel, St Andrews, Fife, Scotland in August 1972.


John Kirkpatrick And Sue Harris:

John Kirkpatrick and Sue Harris, a duo with an enviable reputation on the folk scene of the 1970s, with a focus on English country music and songs.

John recorded with some of the best known artistes of the era such as Ashley Hutchings, Richard and Linda Thompson, Gerry Rafferty, Pere Ubu, Roy Bailey, Barry Dransfield and many others.

John and Sue were founder members of the Albion Country Band, and John has been a member of both Steeleye Span and Brass Monkey.

Their repertoire drew from a wide variety of material; from rural musicians, published music, and from music of the Bahamas, the Appalachians and the Scandinavian influenced islands of Northern Scotland.

Talented multi-instrumentalists, John, is a virtuoso on button accordion, Anglo concertina, baritone concertina, and a vocalist, Sue, is a classically trained musician, adding hammered dulcimer, oboe and vocals to their gigs.

Trained as an oboeist (oboist), Sue became best known for her performances with the hammered dulcimer - an instrument to which she switched during pregnancy, as a matter of expediency. She is also a singer, composer and today leads a community choir in Powys, Wales.

John continues to tour, to hold workshops on concertina and button accordion, and to teach on a one-to-one basis via Zoom and Skype.
