Derail Valley - SH282 Steam Locomotive Start Up & Operations Tutorial

A much requested video regarding how t start up and operate the steam locomotive SH282.

Step 1 - Open the fire door and insert coal (lots)
Step 2 - Fill the boiler with water
Step 3 - light the coal and wait for steam to start being produced.
Step 4 - move the red wheel (reverser) to the forward power position
Step 5 - push regulator arm forwards

I have a huge amount of respect for steam engines and well done to the devs for getting this so good. It's a big balancing act. If there's not enough coal, then you'll lose temperature and stop creating steam, but if you're already maxed out on steam, wait for the steam to die down a bi first. So you constantly need to be monitoring the steam pressure, engine temperature and boiler water level.
