Custom handwritten title tutorial - Final Cut Pro X 2017. In this tutorial, we’ll take a look at how to add a custom handwritten, animated title to your video. Instead of using one of the built in or downloaded fonts for this effect, this method lets you use your own handwriting, for a very unique title. There’s a couple things you need to achieve this effect that most people already have, or can easily get. First thing you’ll need is a touchscreen device. Most smartphones or tablets will work just fine. Next, you will need an app that lets you draw or write on a black background. The one I use for this tutorial is Sketches, made by Tayasui, which can be downloaded for free from the app store. And lastly, you will need to be able to screen record your device. If using an iPhone or iPad with iOS 11, that feature is built right in. If not, you can always record your device with Quicktime.

After writing out and recording your title on a black background on your device, you’ll then transfer it to your mac and imports it into Final Cut Pro. The reason you use a black background, is its very easy to remove. For this example we’ll use the ADD blend mode, which combines the light pixels from the title layer and the layer below it. Since, no lights are used for black, this blend mode will use the pixels from your bottom layer, making the black background completely transparent.
