Karl Widerquist is a Professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University - Qatar. He specializes in distributive justice - the ethics of who has what. He has published dozens of articles and seven books, including A Theory of Freedom as the Power to Say No and A Critical Discussion of Basic Income Experiments. He cofounded the first U.S. Basic Income Network (the first Basic Income Network in the United States) in 1999, Basic Income Studies (the first academic journal dedicated to Basic Income) in 2006.

He served as co-chair of the Basic Income Earth Network 2010-17 and vice-chair 2017-18. He has appeared on or been quoted by many other media outlets including the New York Times, NBC News, 538, Vice, NPR’s On Point, NPR’s Marketplace, PRI’s the World, CNBC, Al-Jazeera, Dissent, Forbes, the Financial Times, and The Atlantic Monthly, which called him “a leader of the worldwide basic income movement.”
