Tapping To Heal Criticism Of Self and Others | Tapping With Renee

If we grew up in a home with emotional abuse or other dysfunction, there's no doubt that we were surrounded by negativity. One way that negativity was manifested was through criticism, both of ourselves and of others.

In this environment large and small details of our lives were micromanaged, controlled and negatively commented on all the time. In turn, we also learned to tear ourselves apart with criticism and to not have any self-confidence.

As a result, we become very critical of ourselves, of our partner, our friends or coworkers. We, too, now notice and scrutinize the tiniest of details. We find that we focus more on what's wrong instead of what's going right.

Criticism is a cover for not feeling good enough, for shame, control and fear. It's the product of feeling unhappy and miserable and is often an attempt to make ourselves feel better by use of comparison. The result, however is low self esteem, low self confidence, people pleasing and codependency.

The cycle has to stop with us, and tapping can help us understand just how pervasive this thought pattern is.
