Underground Gardens hosting Halloween event on Saturday in Fresno

Forestiere Underground Gardens in Fresno is hosting a special Halloween event this Saturday.

The annual event takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26th at the gardens located on Shaw Avenue between Highway 99 and Golden State Blvd.

Baldassare Forestiere, a Sicilian immigrant, began carving his underground garden in the unforgiving hardpan in the early 1900s and continued for 40 years.

In 1979, the Forestiere Underground Gardens were designated a California Registered Historical Landmark.

The gardens are available for guided tours.
