In dieser Folge von “Made at SAE” geht es um den Grammy-Gewinner Hans-Martin Buff. Er gehört zu den spannendsten Klangkünstlern unserer Zeit und ist SAE-Alumnus.
Von 2018 bis 2020 studierte er am SAE Institute in Köln den Master of Professional Practice und erlangte den Abschluss Master of Arts Immersive Music Production. Genau in diesem Bereich gewann er 2024 seinen Grammy Award für die Dolby-Atmos In-Side-Mixes von Peter Gabriels Album i/o. Auch für die nächste Grammy-Runde ist er erneut nominiert.
In dieser Folge Made at SAE spricht Hans-Martin über seine Karriere, seinen Ansatz für immersive Musik, seine Arbeit mit Weltstars und seinen Weg vom SAE-Master zum international gefragten Audio-Visionär.
Wer ist Hans-Martin Buff?
Hans-Martin begann seine Laufbahn in den USA im legendären Pachyderm Studio und wurde wenig später persönlicher Engineer von Prince in den Paisley Park Studios. Vier Jahre lang war er verantwortlich für die Aufnahmen des Ausnahmekünstlers sowie für Kollaborationen mit u. a. No Doubt, Chaka Khan und Larry Graham.
Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Deutschland arbeitete er u. a. mit Mousse T., Joss Stone, Zucchero, Eric Burdon, Roachford, Maxi Priest, den Fantastischen Vier oder den Scorpions und wurde zu einem der führenden Experten für 3D-Audio & Dolby Atmos.
Heute ist er Partner der msm-studios (München/Berlin) und regelmäßig im Real World Studio in England tätig.

This episode of ‘Made at SAE’ features Grammy Award winner Hans-Martin Buff. He is one of the most exciting sound artists of our time and an SAE alumnus.
From 2018 to 2020, he studied for a Master of Professional Practice at the SAE Institute in Cologne and obtained a Master of Arts in Immersive Music Production. It was in this field that he won his Grammy Award in 2024 for the Dolby Atmos in-side mixes of Peter Gabriel's album i/o. He has been nominated again for the next Grammy Awards.
In this episode of Made at SAE, Hans-Martin talks about his career, his approach to immersive music, his work with global stars and his journey from a SAE master’s program to internationally sought-after audio visionary.
Who is Hans-Martin Buff?
Hans-Martin began his career in the USA at the legendary Pachyderm Studio and shortly afterwards became Prince's personal engineer at Paisley Park Studios. For four years, he was responsible for recording the exceptional artist as well as collaborations with No Doubt, Chaka Khan and Larry Graham, among others.
After returning to Germany, he worked with Mousse T., Joss Stone, Zucchero, Eric Burdon, Roachford, Maxi Priest, Die Fantastischen Vier and the Scorpions, among others, and became one of the leading experts in 3D audio and Dolby Atmos.
Today, he is a partner at msm-studios (Munich/Berlin) and regularly works at Real World Studio in England.
