India has blocked the flow of water to Pakistan from the Baglihar dam on the Chenab river and is planning to reduce flow from the Kishanganga project on the Jhelum. Citing the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and Pakistan’s recent missile test, India has decided to deny Pakistan access to Indus waters. In line with this, the Indus Waters Treaty has been suspended, and work on four major hydel projects in Jammu and Kashmir is being fast-tracked, indicating a strategic shift toward pressure through water control.
