In a special briefing held in the capital, the government announced that the proposed 69‑km Kokrajhar‑Gelephu rail link connecting Assam with Bhutan has been declared a Special Railway Project (SRP). The Detailed Project Report has been completed, and once fully approved, the line—estimated at ₹3,500 crore—will introduce six stations and extensive bridge infrastructure, marking Bhutan’s first-ever railway connection.
