Mason Thump (Richard Samson) was born in 1946. A choir singer throughout his childhood he got into disco and funk music a little later in life but hit it hard with his first single "Some People Deserve a Brick." Slinging from the success, he move to Chicago to produce several albums to middling success. At several performances, he'd threw rubber bricks into the crowd and signed several bricks afterwards. His performances suffered a setback in 1983 when someone threw an actual brick at him, knocking him down to the floor breaking his ankle, four ribs and his right thumb.
