Nordhavn 43

The Nordhavn 43 is a new model in the range. It uses a 110 HP low RPM John Deere Diesel with a 27 HP "Get Home" engine.

The John Deere Diesel is regarded as one of the best engines ever built. They have a lifespan of 80000 hours between rebuilds. Consider the fact that a complete circumnavigation is +/- 6000 hours!

The concept of these low RPM engines is based upon long range low speed commercial fishing trawlers averaging 5 - 6 Knots.

The Nordhavn 43 has a CE - A rating (Open Ocean) and several have completed circumnavigation.

This model carries around 1000 Gallon +/ - 5000 litres has a range of 2500 - 3000 Nautical Miles depending upon speed, headwinds, current and obviously generator use.

They may be slow but these "leisure trawlers" are incredibly spacious and comfortable with an undeniably excellent level of creature comforts. They have washing machines, zero point refrigerators, generators, microwaves and all manor of high level electronics.

The Nordhavn 43 is basically a mini ship having an engine room and a proper bridge. Without a shadow of a doubt the equivalent size sailing boat is massively cramped by comparison mainly because powered vessels like this have far more beam.

I have to confess if I had the money and wanted to circumnavigate or perhaps live on-board for a long duration I would very SERIOUSLY consider one of these boats.

A brand new base level Nordhavn 43 is between 500 - 700K (GBP) league.
