This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm revisiting the glory years of arcades and playing a machine which combines three games into one. Welcome to Namco Classics Collection Volume 1!

This machine is a compilation of three classic Namco arcade games from the 1980s: Galaga, Xevious, and Mappy. You can either choose to play the games in their original format, or you can play them in an updated Arrangement mode which adds new levels, new enemies, new mechanics, and generally feels like a completely new game.

A new barcade just opened up in my hometown a couple months ago, which has a Galaga machine in it, on which I set the first six-figure score. So I thought I'd play not only that game, but also the two other games included in this collection as well, killing three birds with one stone. I had actually never heard of Mappy before this, so I effectively had to learn that game on the fly.
