A United States Air Force MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle has been allegedly shot down near Maidan Shahr in Maidan Wardak province, Afghanistan. The crash site near Maidan Shahr, the provincial capital, is in a strategically sensitive area close to Kabul.The location is approximately 45 kilometres southwest of Kabul and more than 200 kilometres from the nearest international border, placing the incident deep inside Afghan territory.

Local authorities may investigate wreckage recovery, potentially complicating US efforts to secure sensitive technology. Past protocols involved self-destruction mechanisms or follow-up strikes to prevent technology capture.
