HLA B27 is an antigen produced by the body and it produces autoimmune response, in the sense the immune system acts against our own body’s tissues damaging them, that is called as autoimmune disease. normally the body’s immunity is it act against foreign bodies like bacteria, viruses etc. But in some cases they start acting against our own tissues causing different sorts of diseases like ankylosing spondylitis where the HLA B27 antigen will be positive in them. So it is an indicator that there is something wrong and it is likely that they will develop autoimmune diseases and for that antigen treatment and prevention is more important than curing the HLA B27.
