La cuarta esposa de Felipe II (1527-1598) fue Ana de Austria (1549-1580), hija mayor de Maximiliano II de Habsburgo y María de Austria (hermana de Felipe II). Ana era, por tanto, sobrina de su esposo. Inicialmente estuvo prometida al hijo de Felipe, Carlos, pero la muerte de este en 1568 impidió la boda y dejó a Felipe sin hijo varón. Se casaron en 1570. Su matrimonio es descrito como feliz y Ana actuó como una madre para Isabel y Catalina, hijas del rey con Isabel de Valois. Ana dio a luz a cuatro varones: Fernando, Carlos, Diego y Felipe pero los dos mayores murieron a los pocos años. En 1580 Ana dio a luz a una niña: María. Unos meses después enfermó de gripe. La reina murió poco después de que Felipe fuese proclamado rey de Portugal en 1580. De los tres hijos que la sobrevivieron, Diego y María murieron en la infancia. The fourth wife of Philip II (1527-1598) was Anne of Austria (1549-1580), eldest daughter of Maximilian II of Habsburg and Maria of Austria (sister of Philip II). Ana was, therefore, the niece of her husband. She was initially betrothed to Felipe's son, Carlos, but his death in 1568 prevented the wedding and left Philip without a male heir. Anna and Philip married in 1570. Their marriage is described as happy, and Anna acted as a mother to Isabel and Catalina, the king's daughters with Elisabeth of Valois. Anna gave birth to four boys: Fernando, Carlos, Diego and Felipe, but the two eldest died after a few years. In 1580 Ana gave birth to a girl: Maria. A few months later she fell ill with the flu. The queen died shortly after Felipe was proclaimed King of Portugal in 1580. Out of her three living children, Diego and Maria died in infancy. Only the future Philip III of Spain survived. In the Spanish series "The Princess of Éboli" Felipe was played by Eduard Fernández and Ana was played by Michelle Jenner. In the film "The Conspiracy of El Escorial" Felipe was played by Juanjo Puigcorbé and Ana was played by Pilar Bastardés.
