NAGPUR: In a big relief to Nagpur University’s (NU) over four lakh students, the administration on Wednesday declared dates for its regular (winter) examinations for under and postgraduate courses.
Accordingly, the practical tests would commence from March 8 while the online/offline papers would begin from March 20.
A communiqué issued by Board of Examination and Evaluation (BoEE) director Prafulla Sable, however, clarified that exam schedules for professional courses where admissions are conducted by the government as per centralized admissions process (CAP) will be declared at a later date. It included engineering, law, pharmacy, education (BEd) and other courses
Sable clarified that only odd semester exams would be held from March 20, including first, third, fifth, seventh and ninth semesters.
The much awaited exam dates were finalized during an emergency meeting of NU’s BoEE on Wednesda. A couple of days ago, education minister Uday Samant had reiterated that all exams for UG and PG courses across traditional universities will be held online..
As per the schedule, all these winter exams should have been completed in October and November, but were inordinately delayed due to extension in Covid-induced lockdown.
Quoting vice-chancellor Subhash Chaudhari, TOI on February 23 reported that the winter exams would be conducted before April 30. Though the Maharashtra government had made it mandatory to conduct online exams due to the prevailing threat of Covid-19, NU would offer an option of offline mode for those hailing from rural areas and facing internet connectivity as well as bandwidth issues.

The VC had already declared that the papers will be held on Saturdays and Sundays so that the regular academic calendar wouldn’t get disturbed and NU’s task force would finalize the schedule.
The NU administration had made it clear that winter exams would be tougher for the students in comparison to summer 2020 papers as they wouldn’t be getting any choice in the questions. They will have to compulsorily attempt all 25 questions. Additionally, there would be other patterns like fill in the blanks, match the pairs, and some descriptive queries, besides multi-choice questions (MCQs).
