The colonialist roots of climate change | Doha Debates

Описание к видео The colonialist roots of climate change | Doha Debates

The climate crisis is a code-red emergency for the entire globe — but its impacts are not being experienced equally by everyone. That’s because of climate colonialism.

Rich countries in the global north take actions that divert the burdens of climate change to more vulnerable countries in the global south with smaller carbon footprints, all the while continuing to extract fossil fuels and reap the energy and wealth benefits that ultimately worsen emissions. This kind of exploitation is not new — but what can we do about it?

There may be no silver-bullet solution to climate change, but because it is abundantly clear that disadvantaged groups are most at risk, we need to start listening to their stories and their ways of solving this crisis.

Join Doha Debates for a debate about the solutions to climate change during #COP26 on November 4, live on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
