Had an interesting conversation with a friend and fellow DM about creature usage recently in a Dungeons and Dragons game, as he was trying to figure out what to use for his mostly-newbie group. That led into a rumination on how we choose which creatures to use in our games, and how being thoughtful about those choices can make things easier for us as DMs in the long-run.
