Pushpanjali is a traditional invocatory piece performed at the beginning of a classical Indian dance recital, especially in Bharatanatyam and other South Indian dance forms. The word "Pushpanjali" means "offering of flowers," and the dance is a respectful salutation to the gods, the guru (teacher), and the audience. It combines graceful movements with rhythmic footwork, setting the tone for the rest of the performance while seeking blessings for a successful recital.
Ganapathi Sthuti in classical dance is a devotional piece performed at the beginning of a recital to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of beginnings. It is traditionally presented after Pushpanjali and sets a spiritual tone for the performance. Through expressive movements and rhythmic patterns, the dancer pays homage to Ganesha, seeking his grace for a smooth and successful presentation.
