🔥 Pain is a complex sensory & emotional experience that tells the body something’s wrong. It’s the most common symptom nurses deal with. The main types are:

1. Acute pain – short‑term, sudden (e.g., post‑op, fracture). Fixes when the cause is treated.
2. Chronic pain – lasts 3 months, linked to disease or nerve damage (e.g., arthritis, cancer pain). Needs long‑term management.
3. Nociceptive pain – caused by tissue injury; can be somatic (skin/muscle) or visceral.
4. Neuropathic pain – from nerve damage; feels burning, tingling (e.g., diabetic neuropathy).
