𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬:
Ripley's a mutant with mentifery and energy manipulation.
She ends up getting the Jean Grey treatment by taking on her role in Dark Phoenix. She absorbs a solar flare-like energy that amplifies her abilities and she ends up injuring her friends at the school, including Bucky and ultimately accidently kills her family.
Secluding herself in isolation, she unknowingly transports herself into the MCU. She ends up finding Sam Wilson who is giving away Steve's shield to the museum.
Because of her abilities are equivalent to a leak in a nuclear reactor, Bucky begins having his nightmares where he's the Winter Soldier again but this time, there's a girl in his dreams that he has no idea who she is. Then when he meets up with Sam, he finally sees this girl in real life and learns that her name is Ripley. And she's stunned too because here's another Bucky before her.

Their story is that they're basically 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, Ripley always staying the same because she's a Nexus Being whereas Bucky slightly differs from realm to universe.
