Urologist Destroyed Man's Urethra-Reconstructive Surgery Needed

He had difficulty urinating.
A NYC urologist performed a procedure to open up his urethra.
It's called a cold knife urethrotomy.

It's not done with any anesthesia either.
It's designed to open up urethra within the man's penis in order to allow urine to flow freely.

It worked for a few days, but then scar tissue closed his urethra down again and he had difficulty urinating.

The urologist did the same procedure again.
The results were the same.
It worked for a few days and closed right up again.

The urologist told the patient there was a procedure he could perform in the hospital that would take only a few minutes. He reassured him that it would work.

The problem was, that this procedure was not meant for a young man.

However, the patient didn't know that.
The doctor didn't tell him that.
Importantly, the doctor didn't know that.

The urologist inserted a metal stent into the penis and within the urethra.

It is a coiled mesh device that springs open once it is placed in the correct position. The skin tissue in the urethra, called epithelial tissue, grows over this metal mesh device and holds it in place.

This metal stent literally keeps the urethra open allowing urine to flow freely.

However, every time this young man had an erection, it caused him severe and excruciating pain. So much pain that the medical records document that he contemplated suicide multiple times.

The urologist took him back into surgery to try and move these metal stents. The problem was that since the skin tissue had overgrown the stents, as it was designed to do, it was no longer mobile.

As the doctor attempted to move the device within his penis to a different location, he literally tore apart and destroyed the inside of this man's urethra.
