Suicide is not the only indicator of mental health burden, said psychiatrist Dr Harish Shetty. "The fights on the roads, the wars among people, the murders and deaths have a mental health root. So it's important to know that we are in the middle of a visible mental health epidemic and campaigns are the key," he added.

Parents are finding it very hard to decode and demystify the complex issues of young people, said We The Young founder Charit Jaggi. He questioned why it is not normal to teach the phone numbers of suicide helplines when students are taught the numbers of ambulances and police.
