The Langtang Valley lies in Rasuwa district of the Bagmati Province in Nepal. Situated about 80 kilometres north of the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara to Syafrubensi about 244 kilometres, the valley lies within the Langtang National Park, which borders the Tibet Autonomous Region in Southwest China. Prior to the 2015 earthquake, 668 individuals were estimated to be living within the valley. According to local legend, a Buddhist Lama discovered the valley while chasing an escaped yak. Another story says that a bull fled to a secret land after being killed during a consecration feast, and the valley was discovered when the owner followed its trail. The valley is said to have been named Bull Passage as a result. Kyangjin Gumba is a Buddhist village and a monastery located in the Langtang Valley of Nepal. It is a popular trekking destination and a spiritual center for locals and visitors alike. The name Kyanjin comes from a local myth that Kyanjin Gompa (monastery) was built on a rock that looked like camel ribs. Kyan means “camel” and jin means “ribs.”
