Rena Xian, MD, MS, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, discusses the personalization of therapy in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), commenting on advances that have been made in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients. Dr Xian shares insights into the novel Molecular International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS-M). Since its release last year, the IPSS-M has been considered more accurate than its predecessor, the IPSS-Revised (IPSS-R), and represents a valuable tool for clinical decision-making and a step forward in achieving personalized therapy for patients. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
