In a year that began with a man driving his truck into a crowd of people in New Orleans on New Year's day, killing 14, there was a stunning announcement on Monday from the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI).
Four suspects were arrested while reportedly conducting practice drills ahead of planned attacks in Los Angeles on New Years Eve.

The defendants were arrested on Friday in the Mojave Desert and were charged with conspiracy and possession of an unregistered destructive device. They include the following individuals:
Audrey Illeene Carroll, 30, also known as Asiginaak, of South Los Angeles;
Zachary Aaron Page, 32, also known as AK, of Torrance;
Dante Gaffield, 24, also known as Nomad, of South Los Angeles; and
Tina Lai, 41, also known as Kickwhere, of Glendale.
During a news conference on Monday, Akil Davis, who is the assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles field office, detailed their plan.
"These bombs were to blow up at the same time on midnight. This New Year’s Eve, the four subjects are members of a radical faction of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, TILF," he said.
According to the FBI, the group is a violent homegrown anti-government group, and had additional plans to attack New Orleans as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
