Leading the Fight Against River Blindness in Nigeria

The Carter Center and partners are working in nine states in Nigeria to eliminate river blindness disease. Spread by the bites of infected black flies, river blindness can cause unbearable itching, irreversible blindness, and drive families deeper into poverty. With two states on the brink of wiping out the disease, the Center is stepping up efforts in the South and Southeast of the world's most endemic country.
