Four years ago, in August 2014, ISIS militants took over Al Nasir, the last village before Kurdistan.

Schools were typically shut down and used as headquarters by ISIS to train their soldiers; Al Nasir's was demolished in its entirety.

Khalsa Aid International had a goal to rebuild the school before Christmas 2018, and did so. The headmaster cites this as a victory not only in gaining the education of 400 Iraqi youth again, but as a retort to all oppression and radicalisation of youth.
