By 1971, the writing was on the wall, so to speak, regarding American muscle cars. This was the year Federal, and State Governments mandated revised emission controls. And over at GM, Ed Cole made it known that all ’71 models would have to run on fuel with a maximum of 91 research octane. This would make it easier to phase in catalytic converters and unleaded fuel by ’75. This effectively killed the LS7, which had been planned as the replacement for the legendary L88. However, there was one last trick up the engineer’s sleeves over at Chevrolet. This came in the form of the LS6, which had made its debut in the Chevelle the previous year. In the Corvette, compression was dropped to 9.0:1, but power was still an impressive rated at 425hp and 475lbs/ft of torque. High flow aluminum heads helped with breathing and weight reduction. The engine was backed up by a Turbo 400 3-spd. automatic transmission or a 4-spd. M22 “Rock Crusher” manual.

This was not only the highest performance Corvette since ’69, but it was also the rarest, with only 188 total units built . . .

And rare is definitely the key word here. Although, some are rarer than others, this Classic White Convertible being an example of this fact!

The car was sold new out of Courtesy Chevrolet-Olds, LTD in N. Toronto, ONT. And the original owner did not skimp on the options!
