This presentation “Name of God is Myoho Renge Kyo” is a “Black Buddhist Lecture written, produced, directed and edited by Anthony “Amp” Elmore President and Founder of the “Proud Black Buddhist World Association.” Elmore in this lecture draw the “Line of Demarcation” between the way he as an African/American Present the Buddhist teachings as taught by the 13th Century Black Buddhist Sage Nichiren Shonin and the way Buddhist teachings are taught by Japanese or Asian Buddhist masters.
Elmore presents a revolutionary Black Buddhist prospective. Elmore in this lecture present the African/American Superstar Tina Turner who is the most noted Buddhist in the West. Tina Turner the retired soul singer and rock star was introduced to Buddhism in 1974. Tina as well as Anthony “Amp” Elmore was born in the Memphis area. Tina born in Nutbush Tennessee not only does not allow an Asian Buddhist master in her shadow Tina practice Buddhism “inclusive of her traditional Black Baptist training.”
Elmore who took a photograph with Tina in 1985 follows the teachings of the Buddha that admonish it followers to practice Buddhism according to the “Customs of the Region.” Elmore explains that Nichiren writes; “Buddhism can only be propagated by a person of wisdom.” Elmore in this lecture explains that the essence of the Buddha’s teachings is the Lotus Sutra and the title of the Lotus Sutra is “Myoho Renge Kyo.”
Elmore explains in detain that “Myoho Renge Kyo is the name of God.” Elmore explains in this lecture that Nichiren Shonin believed in the God concept and Chanting “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo” is the name of God. Elmore did this lecture to bring the Buddhist teachings into a “Black Cultural Paradigm.” Elmore notes that we Black people are spiritual people who make the concept of God part of our religious traditions.

Elmore understands that if he is to teach Buddhism to Black the teachings must be expressed via the traditional Black culture, history and language. Elmore notes can identifying Nam Myoho Renge Kyo as the “Nam of God” make the religion not only “Culturally acceptable” Elmore notes that “Myoho Renge Kyo” is not only the God “Myoho Renge Kyo” is the spirit or mind of the Buddha Shakyamuni.
Elmore concludes the lecture with with Black cultural song “I’m a Buddhist Girl.” This song represent the fact that most Black women are Christian and may find is challenging dating a Buddhist. Elmore tells his story as a Black Buddhist who had to put his Buddhist faith first. Today there are no such issues in that Buddhism as practiced by Proud Black Buddhist Chanting Myoho Renge Kyo is the name of God that diminish the cultural differenced of Buddhism and Christianity.
