As you near retirement, one of the biggest factors impacting when you should leave the company is taxes and how your payouts will impact what you owe the IRS. For Shell’s high-income employees, the 80-Point Pension BRP’s value differs based on the date you retire and, as a result, the taxes you’ll pay on the lump sum. The Benefit Restoration Plan (BRP) is a program that allows Shell to restore benefits its employees would lose when they reach the pension contribution limits set by the IRS.
