The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the 'promotion and regulation of online gaming bill 2025' to ban online games involving real money. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav alleged that such platforms have been misused for terror financing and money laundering. The minister also cited that 32 people have died by suicide in 31 months linked to online gaming. A speaker noted, "...there are many such people who get an addiction due to online money games. Financial losses... many families have been destroyed... even suicides have occurred." The All India Gaming Federation had urged for regulation instead of a ban, warning the move could harm the industry and push players to illegal platforms. The bill, which will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha, also intends to promote e-sports and online social gaming through a new authority.
