How to Train Your Dog the Trick: "Back Stall"

This video show how I trained our dog, Selene (a Border Collie), the trick "Back Stall". This is where the dog jumps up onto your back on command. From there, you can teach them to "sit", "sit pretty", "stand", "lie down", etc; while they are on your back.

Selene did not know this trick prior to recording the "how to" portion. I wanted to show that the training process is a process, and not every step will be successful with every dog for every trick. There are sped up portions of the video during the training where Selene was not understanding what I wanted her to do. I left all of her "failures" in to show how we worked through it.

I would consider this trick as an "advanced trick". With any complex trick, I would advise you to check with your veterinarian to make sure your dog is able to perform the trick. This trick is not for every dog: it requires a lot of strength and balance that not every dog might have. It may also be difficult for a larger to fit on such a small sized area; or difficult for you to hold your balance with a larger dog on your back. Safety first!
