Following the Left Front meeting in Martigues, Mr Melenchon was in Montpellier where he was interviewed by Languedoc-Roussillon FR3. This interesting interview on Regional Public TV contrasts sharply with the unprofessionalism of Paris media. It's informative, the interviewer's questions are open, well prepared and well-informed.

Paris Media is competing among themselves to snap up the Heavenly Palace's DirCom slot, it's present occupant (remaining nameless, here) was a TV host for 20 years and famous for getting the giggles on any subject. Clearly, he's able to laugh of those famous little jokes to which we sometimes refer. They're mostly untranslatable and require more time to adapt than it takes to remember 70 of them. The competition for the plum job is fierce and the lies get bigger and bigger since everyone has noticed how the Presidency relishes them, even to the extent of expecting to fool all of the people all of the time.

A full account of the recent session of the EU parliament is given on Mr Mélenchon's EU blog. The session was extremely animated and MEPs chewed out the EU for it's theft of Cypriot asssets, authoritarian stance and general deafness to any entreaty. The EU Parliament is only able to comment on measures presented by the Commissars, and unable to initiate legislation.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon was a cabinet minister in Lionel Jospin's government (2000-02) as well as a member of the French Senate (1986-2009). He was a long-time executive member of the Socialist Party (1977-2008). He left the PS in 2008, remarking that Socialism is a conviction, not a career. He created the Left Party which is part of a wider electoral coalition, The Left Front. This umbrella organisation is similar to Syriza in Greece or Die Linke in Germany.

In May 2012, Jean-Luc Mélenchon ran for the French presidency. In the first round of the election, he secured 11.1% of the share of the votes nationally (over 4 million votes) in the teeth of total media blackout on his political programme, many malicious misrepresentations (generally chronicled on this channel) and the apparatus' determination to propell the "extreme right" (a euphemism for Fascism) into power for their particular advantage. Déjà vu all over again ?

Mr Mélenchon has been an MEP since 2009.
