A man and a woman met with an accident while paragliding as they got stuck on a high mast light pole in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. The incident took place in rural Thiruvananthapuram's Varkala area.
The video of the incident also surfaced on social media, and soon it went viral. After getting the information, authorities rushed to the spot. Both tourists were rescued, and they were shifted to a hospital. According to reports, one of the people who got stuck was an instructor, while the other was a Coimbatore-based tourist.
Notably, paragliding is an unregulated sport in India. Several untrained people organized a number of paragliding activities. These people operate tandem and unregulated flying.
According to reports and several paragliding associations, the permissions for paragliding and parasailing are given by the local administration and air transport control (ATC). However, there is no national-level governing body that monitors safety standards during paragliding activities in the country.
