Saturday, September 7th 1963.

Footage of Chief Anthony Enahoro, on the day he was sentenced to a term of 15 years imprisonment on three counts: "treasonable felony", "conspiracy" and "contravening the Firearms Act".

The prosecution alleged that Enahoro had been assigned to select 200 members of the youth wing of the opposition Action Group Party for military training abroad. They would then return with the express aim of overthrowing the government.

In court was his wife Helen who wiped a tear from an eye while his daughter played outside in a courtyard. His sons, aged 7 and 8, were pupils at a school in England.

Enahoro had been extradited from London after a 5-month legal battle.

1. The leader of the Action Group Party, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was sentenced the following week.

2. Anthony Enahoro and Obafemi Awolowo were both released from prison after the military coup of July 1966 brought Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon to power.

3. Enahoro became the Federal Commissioner for Information.
