Exploring Snailbeach District Railway - narrow gauge - lead ore mine - Shrewsbury Minsterley

Описание к видео Exploring Snailbeach District Railway - narrow gauge - lead ore mine - Shrewsbury Minsterley

A look around the relics of the Snailbeach District Railway, a narrow gauge line built to serve lead ore mines in Shropshire.

The line ran from the former Snailbeach mine to the Great Western Railway's Minsterley branch near Shrewsbury. It was open between 1877 and 1959.

Today there are sections of track remaining at the Snailbeach Mine site and a locomotive shed amongst the relics. The mine itself is now an industrial heritage site where you can walk around the ruins of the former mine buildings and take tours down the disused mine workings.

This video looks at what is left of the railway at the mine, and a quick look around of the mine itself.

Filmed 20 May 2023.
