How To Tin Wires Before Soldering

Learning how to tin wires properly, especially high flex LiPo & RC silicone wiring used in the hobby, is one of the most important soldering skills to learn. Get this fairly simple task right, and your RC connector soldering will be easier, better, & longer lasting.

Like any soldering skill, tinning wire takes some practice, and tinning high flex multi-strand silicone wire can be more challenging than standard wire because the hundreds of hair like wire act as a solder wick and pull lots of solder along with heat out of your soldering iron.

On the plus side, silicone wire insulation won't melt like PVC insulation will when tinning. This allows you to hold your soldering iron on the wire for longer or hotter if needed to get good tinning penetration into all the wiring strands.
