Wild Rescues: Aidee the Amputee Sloth

Happy Holidays Everyone and #SlothSunday!

We have a Christmas miracle to share with you all - Aidee, an electrocuted two-fingered sloth has been put #backinthetrees!

When she first arrived, she didn't have any severe wounds but smelled like burns. As time passed, she stopped using her limbs. This is when Toucan Rescue Ranch's vet team sprung into action creating a rigorous treatment plan. The plan included a physiotherapeutic massage and several medications to help her regain strength.

Sadly, through tireless efforts, we still had to amputate one arm that lost mobility and was becoming necrotic from the burns. She underwent surgery and was then out through a couple months of rehabilitation to learn life with three limbs.

We are so proud and happy to report that she has made a full recovery and has been rewilded! And yes, we have released many amputee sloths back into the wild and all have done amazing! Such determined animals.
