Recently, a shopkeeper in Hyderabad sold 18 carat gold as 22 carat gold, causing a loss of Rs 50,000 to the customer. To avoid this scam, Govt of India has launched an app, whose name is BIS. In which you can check the purity of gold! Before buying gold, definitely check the BIS hallmark and HUID number present on it. To cross check the HUID number, go to BIS app, click on verify HUID, now enter the 6 digit HUID number present on the gold you are buying and buy the gold only after verifying it! If verification is not done, you can also file a complaint against that shopkeeper from that app itself.
