The actual Gemini XI space capsule and the Apollo-Soyuz Command Module are on display at the California Science Center. The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (#ASTP) was planned to help the United States and the Soviets rescue astronauts and cosmonauts when necessary. In July of 1975, the handshake in space occurred after an Apollo spacecraft docked at the Soyuz Space Capsule of the USSR. This historic event boosted the space programs of each of these superpowers and showed the world that cooperation is possible, #missionaccomplished.
