King of the Jews: A Tale of Two Dynasties and Two Burials

Описание к видео King of the Jews: A Tale of Two Dynasties and Two Burials

Herod the Great was designated "King of the Jews" by the emperor Augustus, whereas Jesus of Nazareth was tagged "King of the Jews" in mockery at his crucifixion by Pontius Pilate, the Prefect of Judea. In this lecture I give an overview of the idea of "The Jesus Dynasty," focusing on the idea of Jewish burial in the Herodian period--what do we know about a "Jesus Family Tomb," in contrast to Herod's Herodium tomb.

This lecture was part a Biblical Archaeology Society seminar, publishers of the premiere archaeology magazine, Biblical Archaeology Review. It is used with permission.
