Описание к видео Patterns of Development: Part 2 (Classification, Definition, Process Analysis, Cause & Effect)

This is the video lecture associated with Chapter 11: Patterns of Development in "College Composition and Reading: Information and Strategies" by L. Dawn Lukas.

This video lecture complements Chapter 11 of "College Composition and Reading: Information and Strategies" by L. Dawn Lukas. It explores four of the eight key patterns of development: description, narration, exemplification, and comparison and contrast. This video shows students how to use the four of the eight patterns to brainstorm support, to lengthen and strengthen your writing, as well using your knowledge of the patterns to evaluate and analyze others' writing. These patterns enhance writing by making it more engaging, persuasive, and structured, while also developing critical reading skills. They not only serve as a source of inspiration but also as essential tools to bolster and fortify the quality of your writing.

The four patterns of development covered in this video are classification and division, cause and effect, definition, and process analysis. See Part 1 for a discussion of description, narration, exemplification, and comparison and contrast.
The specific patterns of development addressed in this video lecture include:

Classification: Embark on the systematic categorization of information, organizing disparate elements into distinct groups or classes to enhance clarity and understanding. Through classification, writers illuminate the inherent connections among items, facilitating a comprehensive view of complex subjects.

Definition: Dive into the precision of language, skillfully crafting clear and concise definitions to unveil the essence of concepts or terms. Define with clarity and nuance, leaving no room for ambiguity and ensuring that readers grasp the precise meaning.

Process Analysis: Navigate the intricacies of dissecting procedures and sequences, unveiling the step-by-step progression of actions to elucidate how something is done or how an outcome is achieved. Writers adept in process analysis unravel complexities, offering readers a roadmap to comprehend and/or replicate the outlined procedures.

Cause and Effect: Uncover the interconnected web of relationships by exploring the profound impact of causation. Delve into the exploration of events or phenomena, unraveling the threads that link actions to consequences. Writers skilled in cause and effect provide insights into the underlying mechanisms shaping outcomes, fostering a deeper understanding of the forces at play.

In essence, this video lecture offers an opportunity for learners to unlock the full potential of these patterns of development, empowering them to transform abstract ideas into tangible, well-structured compositions, and to critically engage with the world of written communication.
