Tchaikovsky's "The Seasons" is a set of twelve short and evocative solo piano pieces. Each one is characteristic of a different month in the Russian year and they are all accompanied by brief 'poetic epigraphs.' "April" has the following:
"The blue, pure snowdrop-flower, and near it the last snowdrops.
The last tears over past griefs, and first dreams of another happiness."

'"The Seasons" is also heard in several orchestral arrangements and the ''April' month uploaded here - in effect another Tchaikovsky waltz - comes from a transcription of the whole set arranged by the English composer David Matthews. It is played by the Norddeutsche Rundfunk Orchestra, conductor Carl Davis, and is taken from their 1991 radio broadcast of the complete work's first performance.
