Arrowhead Explains What Needs To Happen To Get Helldivers 2 On Xbox

Helldivers 2 players will soon be celebrating their first Liberty Day. In the meantime, one of the developers addressed comments about the „impossibility” of releasing the game on Xbox Series X/S.

Despite remaining a Sony exclusive since its release earlier this year, a potential Xbox port of Helldivers 2 is not totally off the table, at least according to one of the game's team members. Arrowhead Game Studio's own community manager recently entertained the idea of an Xbox release for Helldivers 2, sharing that the decision falls much more on Sony and Microsoft than the developers.

Helldivers 2 may come to Xbox Series X/S, but not in the near future. Thomas "Twinbeard" Petersson addressed questions about the game's possible debut on Microsoft consoles that appeared on the game's Discord channel.

Arrowhead's Community Manager stated that the release of HD 2 on Xbox is by no means impossible. However, the decision regarding the release of the game on other platforms is up to Sony. So a debut on XSX/S would be dependent on Sony reaching an agreement with Microsoft (or, as Petersson put it, specifically with Phil Spencer).

The idea of an Xbox port is a fantasy, as Sony benefits more from keeping it exclusive. So if you're an Xbox user, godspeed.

If both companies believe that releasing the game on Xbox makes financial and brand sense, it could happen. However, if Sony feels it won’t benefit their platform, the game will remain exclusive to PlayStation and PC.

An Xbox port could inject more life into the game, but Sony isn’t in the business of charity. The company is more concerned with using exclusives like Helldivers 2 to keep players within their ecosystem, ensuring that every player is a PlayStation player.
