How to Do Breast Self-Examination at Home | Learn Breast Self-Exam in 2 Minutes | Noble Hospitals
Every woman above the age of 25 years should perform a breast self-check once every month. Dr. Patil explains that the best time to do this is a few days after your menstrual period ends, when the breasts are less tender and easier to examine.
There are two key steps to Breast Self-Examination, Look and Feel.
Look: Stand in front of a mirror, raise your hands, and observe your breasts. Check the shape, size, and symmetry. Notice any dimpling, nipple retraction, redness, or orange peel appearance on the skin.
Feel: Lie down and use the flat part of your fingers to gently press and feel your breasts. Check for any lumps, irregular areas, or discharge from the nipple.
Dr. Patil emphasizes that knowing what is “normal” for your breasts helps you detect any changes early. If you notice any unusual signs or symptoms, consult your doctor immediately.
Regular breast self-examination can help in early detection of breast cancer, increasing the chances of successful treatment and recovery.
