Search on Lake Norman continues for missing swimmer

Multiple rescue crews are on Lake Norman as the search for a swimmer who disappeared on July Fourth continues Friday.

The Huntersville Fire Department shared it had a fireboat on the water to help the Cornelius Fire Department with the search. Denver Fire Department also had a boat activated. The search is centered around an area near a sand bar. Agencies first responded around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Medic crews were dispatched to the lake Thursday, but the agency said it would not return to the lake on Friday.

Details about the search and the missing swimmer have not been released. It's unclear what happened that led to the swimmer going underwater and not resurfacing.
