Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Ford Escape. We're gonna be checking out the CURT Premium hitch mounted bike rack. So first impressions of the rack on the back of the Escape, I think it looks pretty good. It kind of has more of a modern type of appearance and it's really simple, easy to use. So, you know probably it's gonna be a good entry level rack.

If you're someone that you know, rides every now and again, or not really, really into it, kind of gets you going. But that doesn't mean if you ride all the time, that you can't use this, by any means, you can. It's well built man and should hold up really pretty good. But, with that said, the way it works is really simple. So it's gonna hold your bike down in three spots.

So you're gonna have two straps along the top too. And then a strap down here, and this is going to act as an anti-sway. So it's going to help limit that side to side movement. You're still going to get some, but they're not going to be swinging out of control, you know, bikes banging into each other, and everything else like that. This one can hold up to a total of four bikes, so, two here and two here, and at the end they get a little more narrow.

So this will work out for those smaller frame bikes, like a children's bike or something like that. But you're still able to put full frame bikes on here too. So, it kind of opens up your options a little bit on what you can carry around too from the trails. With that said though, let's go ahead and get this removed, to take a better look at the rack. So straps, I mean really straight forward here, nothing, you know, no one should really struggle with, it's pulling straps off.

We're ready to pull it off and kind of as a bonus, when the arms kind of come in, that's gonna make it more manageable to take this off. I just have a lot more space. So taking a look at the cradles here where your bikes frame is gonna sit, they're kind of like a really hard rubber or soft plastic, something along those lines, kind of what it reminds me of and these are pretty neat actually. You don't see these on every rack, they're adjustable so you can rotate them. And whatever contour or style or side rather fits your bike the best, that's the one you can use. So although it should do a better job or you can kind of have some customization there, in terms of what side you can use to keep your bike sitting on. And then you have all these anchors too. So more than enough spots to actually take your straps and buckle them down. The straps are pretty decent. I'd say they're not the best ones I've ever seen, but definitely not the worst. They're pretty thick. Feel like they should hold up for quite some time. So, shouldn't really run into any issues, or at least not anytime soon. I do suggest though if you're driving around with it, never a bad idea just to put the shelves back that way they're not flopping around. You don't have to worry about anything happening to them. Something that you do need to think about, whenever you have the rack on the back of your Escape, is the fact that it's gonna extend the overall length of it. Probably not a huge deal. These aren't super long vehicles, but these take up a little bit of space, so if you've got a small garage or a tight parking spot or something like that, keep that in the back of your head to find out exactly how much will this run this from our hatch here, to the very edge of the rack. And it looks like it's gonna add, it looks like about 37 inches, to the back of it. So be conscious of that. With that said, though, whenever you're not carrying bikes around the arms actually do fold in and frees up quite a bit of space. There's just a small pin and clip here that you can pull out. Swing then arms on down. And obviously, you want to put your pin and clip back. And that took a somewhat large bike rack into a pretty compact one. Sits up pretty tight against the back here. So now it looks like the furthest point is probably gonna be all the way down here. And so from here, you have this measure from our bumper. So from the bumper to it, it's only gonna add about a foot to the back of your car or so. So in this position really shouldn't run into any issues at all, when you do that to put it into your garage or that tight spot. One of the big questions that we do get asked all the time in regards to the hitch mounted bike racks like this is if
