The United States’ European allies are considering how best to respond after President Trump threatened a 10% tariff for not complying with his demand that the U.S. be allowed to take over Greenland. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said it’s “completely wrong” to impose tariffs on allies, and that the future of Greenland should be decided by its people and Denmark. Meanwhile, we’re learning more about the motivations for Trump’s goal of annexing Greenland in a private letter he wrote to the prime minister of Norway. “Considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,” Trump wrote in a letter to Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
